The refugee's gaze is always plural and not only able to grasp, but also to promote the different dimensions of culture: an event, a landscape, a human activity unfold in front of their gaze, with the memory of a different environment, far away in time, as a constant background. The first edition of the initiative Filmare l'Alterità (Filming Otherness), created by the SAGAS Department of the University of Florence, was born with a clear goal: to try and represent this gaze through mobile devices and moving images. What we asked foreign citizens living in Florence and in the neighbouring towns was to not to tell us about their life, but about ours, and to do it by starting from the urban landscape.

Giulia is a maiden abandoned at the birth in Florence of Francesco I dei Medici and Bianca Cappello, who has already been the subject of historical research and some re-elaboration in literary and cinematographic terms. Thanks to the richness of the sources now found, a completely new and exhaustive biography of this 16th century woman is presented, with an unpublished version of her personality and history. Florence, the Casentino and the Valdinievole are the places of her life, which fully reflects the condition of women in her era, faced by Giulia with courage and determination. The discourse develops on two intertwined planes, that of historical analysis and that of its narrative integration, with the hypothetical reconstruction of the areas left in the shadows. This book enters by right into historiographical traditions now widely codified and into a literary tradition defined by Giacomo Debenedetti as 'historiography of interiority'.

Despite the evident importance of the youth question in the ambit of modern society, in practice the consideration of young people as a category of consumers frequently prevails over the valorisation of their role as citizens. This survey - triggered by a synergy between the Provincial Authority and the University - focuses the attitudes and orientations of young people, both Italian and immigrants, in the Province of Florence. The objective is to bring to the fore the dynamic and more strictly civic aspect, so as to explore themes such as the shifts in values and the security, identity and participation of the new generations. The analysis effectively brings to light a widespread ambivalence, comprising both the innovative characteristics of individualism and other features that hark back to traditionally consolidated legacies. What emerges is the sense of a social mutation that is already under way, but still in transition, in which young people play a role of considerable significance.
